New Year’s Eve — an evening of merrymaking while bidding goodbye to the past year and preparing for the coming of the New Year. As has been the tradition for as long as I can remember, it’s the night for an almost unending fireworks display all over the Philippines, from every corner in the busy streets of Metro Manila to the most far flung village in the provinces.
As early as 6pm New Year’s Eve, sporadic bursts of firecrackers can be heard everywhere. This builds up into a deafening cacophony of explosions as the clock ticks nearer and nearer to midnight. Here are some images I have captured during last night’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.
